The Wall was built by the East Germans to keep East Berliners from escaping into West Berlin, separating families and friends. In 1989, at the age of 69 years old, Jeanette was alive when on November 9th, the Berlin Wall fell. ![]() The Altair home computer kit allowed consumers to build and program their own personal computers. In 1975, Jeanette was 55 years old when in January, Popular Mechanics featured the Altair 8800 on it's cover. It called for stopping the spread of nuclear weapons, the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and the goal of nuclear disarmament. In 1969, she was 49 years old when one hundred countries, along with the United States and the Soviet Union signed the nuclear nonproliferation treaty (NPT). In the same speech, he outlined the benefits of democracy which he said were economic opportunity, employment, social security, and the promise of "adequate health care". In 1941, Jeanette was 21 years old when in his State of the Union address on January 6th, President Roosevelt detailed the "four freedoms" that everyone in the world should have: Freedom of speech, Freedom of worship, Freedom from want, and Freedom from fear. And where saloons often prohibited women, they were encouraged at speakeasies because of the added profits. There were a lot of them and they were very popular. Speakeasies, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, were "so called because of the practice of speaking quietly about such a place in public, or when inside it, so as not to alert the police or neighbors". ![]() ![]() After the 18th Amendment was ratified and selling alcohol became illegal, saloons closed and speakeasies took their place. In 1920, in the year that Jeanette A Rossmiller was born, speakeasies replaced saloons as the center of social activity.
